Jazepa Vitola Latvijas Muzikas akademija is the only university-type education establishment in Latvia providing higher musical education in performing arts, composition, musicology, music education and choreography, as well as carrying out research. JVLMA offers internationally accredited study programmes on Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level and professional qualifications.
The international policy of JVLMA aims to develop international cooperation and integration into the European and global academic community, to ensure high quality standards in higher music education. International collaboration is based on short-term educational activities (masterclasses, workshops, intensive courses, seminars, lectures), student and staff exchange, various events, as well as collaborations with international youth orchestras and choirs.
JVLMA joined the Socrates/Erasmus programmes in 1999, and has since then signed bilateral Erasmus agreements with more than 100 Academies of Music and Universities in the EU, as well as collaboration agreements with P.Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, among others.
Since 2008, Latvia is a full member of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ educational programme Nordplus, which also offers possibility of student and staff exchange in frameworks of NordClassic, NordTrad, NordPuls (Jazz), NordOpera and ActinArt networks.
They have succesfully realized 13 projects in the last years in the framework the programme Swiss Resaerches’ Activities in Latvia. They are currently working on the development of collaboration on permanent basis with several Universities in the USA.
The international strategy of JVLMA envisages further internationalization of the youth orchestras and choirs, providing excellent opportunities of prefessional experience under guidance of outstanding conductors and other highly qualified musicians.
