Stockholm University of the Arts (UNIARTS) was inaugurated on January 1, 2014 when School of Dance and Circus (DOCH), the University College of Opera (UCO) and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (SADA) merged in order to create a leading international research milieu. This milieu is developing in close dialogue with the surrounding artistic and cultural community and constitutes a dynamic driving force in the advancement of artistic knowledge, as well as the promotion of the role of the arts in societal development. Within Stockholm University of the Arts (UNIARTS), BA and MA programmes are provided in the followoing fields: DOCH: Choreography, dance, dance pedagogy and circus. SADA: acting, performing arts, film and media. UCO: opera singing. All schools have very close links to their respective artistic fields.
In 2017, UNIARTS had 457 full time students and 185 employees in total (full-time equivalent). UNIARTS has researched education within 5 areas: choreography, film and media, opera and performing arts. Currently, UNIARTS has 18 PHD cadidates. All candidates are closely linked to a department and participate in the life of the department in order to strengthen the relation between research and education. All candidates have a background as experienced artists and also continue to work with their research in relation to networks, institutions and venues in their respective art fields. The research education is a part of a larger research environment consisting of professors, senior lecturers and other affiliated researchers within choreography, film and media, opera and performing arts.
